Summer 2018: All Styles for a casual day out to town – Part 4
It’s that all too familiar time of year again. During the summertime, the warm weather means you just have to adapt your dressing style. The blazing sun means perspiration will happen, no matter what precautions you take. Make the right choices, and you’ll be the talk of the town, turning heads wherever you go, and really, who doesn’t want that.
In this part of our ongoing series, we’ll be talking you through the final part of a summer outfit, the shoes. With any luck, you’ll be a fine example of a man who knows his casual fashion, so let’s jump straight in.
Considering how simple we made dressing up seem, the shoes may feel like an afterthought, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. The idea of picking out shoes is one that even the fashion pros find daunting. Let’s get this out of the way immediately, you cannot opt for flip flops during the summer. Sure, it’s an option, but not a terribly enticing one. The idea of spending hours agonising over what to wear, only to ruin it all with a bad choice of shoes is something you’d do good to avoid.
So, with that crossed off the list, let’s start by considering our options. A recent trend that we’re huge fans of are desert boots. These were always designed for hot weather, and keep your soles cool throughout the day. The best thing is that they’re so versatile, merging beautifully whether you’re dressed casually or formally. You definitely want a pair in your wardrobe.
The next best choice is something that you’ve known since you were a kid. Sneakers and sports shoes are excellent choices. While these lean towards a more casual flair, you can’t go wrong with these. Whether you’re donning jeans or shorts, these play a pivotal role in finishing off the look. For the best safe option, go for solid whites. While these dirty easily, you won’t find them clashing even with the most saturated of colors.
If you’re a fan of the classic summer look, boat shoes and loafers are excellent options. Both provide similar effects, though boat shoes are something more geared towards that elusive semi-formal look. There’s no need to break the mold here, the typical brown has and always will be a great option, blending in beautifully with chinos and jeans alike. We’d advise against wearing them with shorts though. Instead, try out something simple like a white T-shirt and dark jeans.
Finally, if you really need to have wear something similar to flip-flops, give a pair of good sandals a try. With the right pair, you’d be pleasantly surprised by the overall suave you can get. With modern brands like Brikenstock and the like selling unique yet beautiful designs, you can get away with a lot.
Let’s end with a few tips. First things first, comfort is king. A beautiful pair of shoes means nothing if it hurts and feels hard to wear. Consider finding shoes that breathe, keeping your feet from being drenched in sweat. Next, invest in shoe liners if you don’t feel comfortable with sockless shoes, you don’t want to ruin the look. And finally, shoes are only just a single part of the moving machine that is your outfit. That means the rest of your outfit is as important as always.
